On Friday, 11th April 2025, the Corporate Affairs Department of GREL handed over ownership of a newly constructed five-seater KVIP facility officially to the people of Aboagyekrom, a community within the Ahanta West Municipality. This project, part of GREL’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, was delivered in response to a formal request made by the community.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from the Chief of Aboagyekrom, who expressed deep appreciation for GREL’s continued commitment to the development of the community. He acknowledged that this was not the first intervention by GREL and outlined three key developmental needs of the community: access to potable water, a modern KVIP facility, and a community centre. With the completion of the water and sanitation projects, he made a heartfelt appeal to GREL to support the final need — the construction of a community centre.
In his remarks, Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX, Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove and Chairman of ACLANGO (Association of Chiefs on whose Lands GREL Operates), lauded GREL for its impactful and sustained community engagement. He urged the residents of Aboagyekrom to embrace a strong maintenance culture to safeguard the longevity of the facility.
Also speaking at the event, Awulae Attibrukusu III, Paramount Chief of Lower Axim, encouraged rubber out-growers to continue selling to GREL to enhance development across the 96 ACLANGO communities. He further recommended that a local committee be formed to oversee the management and maintenance of the facility, including the development of incomegenerating activities to sustain its upkeep. Delivering the company’s address, Mr. Perry Acheampong, Corporate Affairs Manager of GREL, praised the collaborative spirit of the chiefs, elders, and residents of Aboagyekrom. He shared that the project, valued at GHS 215,734.84, was completed within a span of three months due to the urgency of the community’s sanitation needs. He emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining the facility.
