On September 13th, 2024, GREL marked a significant milestone with the official launch of the GREL Ladies Association, a new initiative aimed at empowering women within the company. Ahead of the official launch, some executives and an advisor participated in a radio interview on SKY Power FM (93.5) during the morning show, where they shared the purpose and goals of the association with the public.
The Launch, held at the lively Abura (Awards Grounds), the event saw a vibrant gathering of around 400 women from various departments including field, factory, and support staff. dressed in their striking GREL Ladies T-shirts, the participants created an atmosphere of unity and inspiration.
Empowerment and Support from All Sides
Themed “Empowering Ladies One Step at a Time,” the event began with motivational speeches from guest speakers Madam Acolatse (retired GREL Procurement/Sales Manager) and Dr. Mrs. Sarah Liki Wayoe (Executive Director of Finance & Administration, Wayoe Engineering). Their insightful talks on personal development, leadership, and overcoming workplace barriers resonated deeply with the attendees, setting a tone of empowerment for the day.
Mr. Howard Nanevie, GREL’s HR Manager, also delivered a heartfelt speech, reaffirming the company’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for women. His words, along with the active encouragement from male colleagues, highlighted the shared vision of building a stronger, more empowered female workforce which he stressed on the fact that “The time is now”.
For those unable to attend in person, a live Facebook stream was made available, allowing virtual participation. The Managing Director (Mr. Thierry Cauchy) also joined remotely, offering a congratulatory message to further encourage the association’s growth.

A central highlight of the launch was the swearing-in of the association’s newly elected executive team:

With support from the association’s advisors, Matron, and Patron, the executives are committed to leading the GREL Ladies Association towards its mission of empowering women at every step.
A Day of Milestones
Another major moment was the unveiling of the association’s official banner which captured the Logo, Vision, Mission and slogan, symbolizing its dedication to promoting professional development, mentorship, and collaboration among GREL women. This symbolic ceremony was led by Madam Esi Yankson, GREL’s Supply Chain Manager. Numerous photos captured the excitement and unity, ensuring the day would be remembered. A highlight of the day also captured the cultural display and recitals by students from GREL Basic School, adding a lively and memorable touch to the event
Several members of GREL Management, including Mr. Kwadwo Wiafe (Estates Manager), Mr. Vincent Koomson (Procurement Manager), Mr. Samuel Yaw Berko (Head of RUTAP) and other senior managers attended to show their support, emphasizing the company’s commitment to the initiative.
Although the association’s Matron, Madam Henriette Gomis Billon (Director of Communication and Sustainable Development of the SIFCA Group), was unable to attend due to other responsibilities in Abidjan, she was represented by Mr. Philippe Louloux (CSR Manager for Communication and Sustainable Development), reinforcing her strong backing of the initiative.
A New Beginning for GREL Women
The launch’s success was because of the tireless efforts of GREL Management, the association’s Matron, Patron Mr. Perry Acheampong (Corporate Affairs Manager), GREL Ladies Executives, Advisors (Madam Gladys Davis and Madam Linda Wunaki), and volunteers. Every detail, from the vibrant decorations to the smooth execution of the program, contributed to an unforgettable event.
The enthusiastic participation of GREL Ladies, supported by their male colleagues and Management, signals the start of a new chapter. As the GREL Ladies Association continues to grow, it will serve as a platform for women to thrive both personally and professionally, leaving a lasting impact.

With this strong foundation, the GREL Ladies Association is poised to roll out various programs and initiatives that will further empower its members. The future is promising, and together, the association will work towards achieving its shared vision.
