
As part of employee’s well-being to create a sense of belongingness among staff, management organized an inter-departmental game on Independence Day, March 6,2026, at the GREL Basic School Field. The annual Independence Day Games provides a refreshing opportunity for workers to unwind, socialize, and relax away from work.
The day was filled with several fun activities, including football which took center stage, sack race, and tag of war.
Staff were divided into four football teams representing different sections of the company to compete for the title of champion.
Team 1 – APM Factory
Team 2 – TBU Factory
Team 3 – Estates
Team 4 – Garage & Transport, CID
The event officially started with an opening address by the Managing Director, Mr. Thierry Cauchy, who commended the Sports Committee for consistently organizing the annual event. He emphasized the importance of sports in promoting employees’ mental health, teamwork, and overall wellbeing.
The football matches began with high energy and determination from all teams. The opening match was Garage versus TBU Factory in a tightly contested encounter. Garage managed to break the deadlock and secured 1–0 victory, defeating TBU factory.
The second match featured Estates against APM Factory. It was a tactical and highly competitive contest, with both teams pushing forward in search of a goal. After persistent pressure and disciplined play, APM prevailed 1–0 win over Estates.
The tournament then moved to the playoff for the third-place position, where Estates faced Tsibu Factory. Determined to finish strong, Estates displayed resilience and attacking intent, eventually scoring the decisive goal to defeat Tsibu 1–0 and secure the third position. In the final round of becoming the Champions, APM team players exhibited a more skillful approach throughout the game and managed to make the difference with one goal.
The victory sparked jubilant celebrations among APM supporters as the team was crowned champions of the 2026 GREL Independence Day Football Tournament. In recognition of their outstanding performance, the team was presented with a trophy, and each player received a medal.

Prosper Koomson – Goalkeeper of the Year

Kobena Otchere Kusi – Tug of War Winner
Present at the event was Mr. Thierry Cauchy, Managing Director, Mr. Kwadwo Wiafe Tenkorang, Estates Manager, Mr. Selassie Zoiku, Project manager, Mr. Akwasi Apau Boakye, Sports Committee Chairman, Madam Linda Wunaki, Deputy Human Resources Manager and other key managers.
